Treatment Rooms

Encircling Central Park are ten rooms of various sizes which can be used for a variety of different therapeutic activities. The community center was specifically designed for group activities. The computer center is available for children to use therapeutic computer programs, including Interactive Metronome, Earobics, and Fast ForWord. The nursery is equipped specifically to work with babies and their parents. The Bakery includes a full kitchen with an oven, stove, refrigerator, microwave, sink and dishwasher. Groups or individual children can cook, learn food preparation, work on feeding issues, or just have a snack.

All treatment rooms have lighting chosen because of its beneficial effects on children's functioning. There is no flicking or buzzing of the lights which can be irritating to children, and all lighting is indirect, which is better visually for children doing table activities. Each room is equipped with a video camera which continually feeds the picture to a VCR located in adjacent observation rooms. An audio system is installed so parents or others working with the child can hear what is occurring during the session and observe through one way windows.
