Physical Therapy
Physical Therapy

Physical Therapy benefits children by improving coordination, balance, tone and core strength. Early identification and treatment of these issues can impact future success in areas such as handwriting, sports, behavior and learning.
Physical Therapists at the Abilities Center use a child's work or "play" to enhance their gross motor skills. They work closely with the occupational therapists and speech-language therapists to provide a holistic approach for children of all ages and abilities. The earlier your child is identified and receives intervention the better the functional outcome.

Specialized Programs
Core Challenge
A 6-week strengthening program for your child's trunk or body core. Designed for children ages 5 and older with trunk weakness demonstrated through clumsiness, balance and coordination difficulties, or poor handwriting. Our children don't have to "just live with" these problems!
Swimming for Special Needs Children
Learn with your child play-based techniques to facilitate water acclimation, strength, coordination and balance. Your child works one-on-one or in a small group setting with a physical therapist or a trained assistant. A fun way to challenge and improve skills that may be difficult on land.
Spinning Wheels
Spinning wheels teaches the foundations of bike riding to kids 7 years and up with the main goal of independent two-wheeled bike riding at the completion of the course. Mounting, dismounting, "catching" balance, and pushing with feet on the ground are the basics that will be addressed prior to riding.
